Anti Drip feature
When buying a jug style coffee maker for the home, look for the anti drip feature. This allows you to get a cup of coffee even if the filtering process is only partly completed and the jug is only half full. The jug fits snug, opening the valve. When you take the jug away, the valve closes, stopping the filtering and the water flow.
Type of filter
Cheaper types of home coffee makers use paper filters that must be removed after each use. You must make sure that you have a good supply of paper filters. There are many a time that I have run out! These days you can get the same style of jug coffee makers with built in metal mesh filters that don’t need replacing, which are far more convenient, except you cant throw away a paper filter, but must clean the metal filter.
Coffee Pods
A recent development making coffee makers very popular are coffee pods. Coffee pods are a pre-packed sachet of coffee grounds. They make preparation so simple, so you don’t need to grind coffee beans yourself. Newer machines allow you to take both pods or loose coffee grounds.
Digital display
Look for a coffee maker that has a LCD display including a digital timer.
Auto Shut Off
The auto shut off feature is a great way to protect your coffee maker. It is so easy to leave the maker on, so look for this great feature.
Commercial Coffee Machine Features
One of the most important features you should consider when looking at coffee makers is whether it is programmable or not. Programmable coffee makers allow you to set and forget. Then, when you want your coffee ready for you, it is. This is perfect for erly morning starts when you don’t have the time to fiddle around to prepare that perfect early morning heart starter. You can get fully automatic or semi-automatic coffee machines. Checkout the features of both to select the right one for you.
Water Filter
Next, check if the coffee maker has a filter to remove impurities and chemicals that come in most water supplies. These filters remove things like chlorine and irons from heavy water, but over time these filters do need to be replaced.
Built In Coffee Grinder
Do you want an in built coffee grinder? This feature will provide you with the freshest coffee brew available.
Bypass Doser
A bypass doser is handy if you want variety in your coffee as it allows you to use two types of ground coffee beans at the same time.
Grind Adjuster
A grind adjuster allows you to adjust the size of the coffee grind which ultimately will allow you to adjust the strength of the taste.
Twin Boilers
You can get coffee machines that have twin boilers. The benefit of twin boilers are that you can create your espresso and steam milk at the same time, making the process so much quicker.
